There is a lack of transparency with deep learning models and AI – as it is difficult to understand how they come to their conclusions – Even their AI designers are unable to be sure.

This technology may make biased or unsafe decisions and there is little explanation for what data is used by the AI algorithms.

Explainable AI  –  is helpful but it will be some time before transparent AI systems become common practice.

As robotic AI systems become more developed, many manual operations will require fewer humans. AI is estimated to create up to 100 million jobs by  2025 – but many untrained employees won’t have the required skills for these new AI technical roles. 

If companies do not update their employees skills there will be many job losses.

Social Media platforms use AI Algorithms to feed content of related previously viewed media on the platform. The algorithms don’t filter out harmful and inaccurate content, raising concerns over the platforms ability to protect its users from misleading information.

Online media and news generate AI and videos, deepfakes and AI voice –  by infiltrating social and political platforms and areas  – making it easy to design realistic photos, videos, audio clips – and to replace the image of figures with another figure in an existing picture or video.

Criminals can exploit propaganda and misinformation by making it  very difficult to tell if it is real or and false .

Social Surveillance with AI Technology

AI is greatly affecting privacy and security.

The Chinese government may now be able to gather very detailed personal data to monitor a person’s activities, relationships and political views.

The U.S. police departments use – predictive policing algorithms –  to anticipate where crimes will occur.  The problem is that these algorithms are influenced by arrest rates, which disproportionately impacts certain communities.  Police departments may then concentrate on these communities, maybe leading to over-policing.

Authoritarian regimes and Self-Proclaimed Democracies may use AI as an authoritarian weapon.
